I am so happy to be around here.

Cactuscook, are those lophophoras grafted on harissia caespitosas?

If they are they look great, faster stocks make caespitosa look like poop. as it pups to much.

It is caespitose first offset apeared exactly one month after grafting. also did a graft onto trich scop and it is a different variety just lw and that has maintained good growth also will post a pic tomorrow night. One thing i find with harrisia, myrtillo and trich scop is that you can slow growth of scion down enough to appear as looking close to normal. Well not always but i have some examples of each.

Grafted seedlings - Page 2 4615057622_30f371d705Not the best photo but i paid $4 for this sulco rauschii and thought to myself mmm i want i big one so i grafted the top and the bottom since this i have removed approx 40-50 pups and rooted them down. Now i have to look for a recent photo before i removed heaps of the pups. So if you have something rare small or slow growing graft it. Been busy with work and this forum so havent yet sowed seed for my peri grafting but i have made enclosure bit dodgy but should work until i set up 4 shelf unit that i had in mind.

PostSubject: Re: Grafted seedlings   Grafted seedlings - Page 2 EmptyWed May 19, 2010 8:09 pm

This is the species I want to graft. I've kept two of these over the last 20 years. The first one I bought as a tiny plant when I was about 18 years old. It grew over the next 15 years or so into a plant that filled a 5 inch pot but I never saw a flower on it. Then I gave it to my Grandmother to look after while I went o/s/ and it died while I was away. The one I have now is a tiny plant that nearly didn't make it. On its first night here (outside) something decided it looks tasty and chewed the growing point out of it. It has offset twice now in the last 3 years and now I want to remove one of the 1cm diam. offsets to graft onto something to give it a boost along to a point where I can degraft it and hopefully see it flower for the first time in 22 years. This is why I wanted to track down some pere to graft it onto... thanks to Josh I can now do this soon. I've got a tonne of seed to sow too and am also hoping to set something up in the hothouse to sow... getting down to 1 degree overnight here atm though... might wait a while Smile

The bottom did really well thought i had some pics still looking if not will take photo tomorrow. And there grafted onto trich scop. I have done this with other species aswell mamm sanchez mejorda (check spelling as i can be bothered) lobivia famtamensis, turb pectinefera and myrio onzuka only did it in fear of losing them. I did it late in season so next year ill have some nice cuttings for you.

Grafted seedlings - Page 2 4629097944_2b390a7cbcThis is the root of the following graft it took i think from memory at least six months before growth appeared it has been two years i think since i did this. I thought to myself it had a big root so a good chance of surviving and producing pups.

Grafted seedlings - Page 2 4672815761_0feb8b2e8eThis ortegocactus macdougallii is grafted onto a two foot cutting of harrisia i also grafted the bottom of scion. I did this to see how much more growth is obtained by the larger stock it would be my tallest stock that is grafted.
