Grafted seedlings

These are Uebelmannia Pectinifera var Pseudopectinifera grafted as 40 day seedlings onto myrtillocactus i cut the seedlings to low including part of the root this has caused offsets. The one in the bottom right hand corner seems to be dying whether its because of the spines growing into the plant body i dont know. The others well im thinking off cutting one up and regrafting. They are now 15 months old given that i used low stocks and had multiple plants i feel that i can achieve better results next time. Cant wait for some flowers.

That's some really nice work. The one that's dying... do you reckon it would be worth trying to re-graft it to save it?

Your Myrtillocactus seems to be really fat and healthy. Can you share any hints on getting this particular stock to power along so well?

The one thats dying seems to have a fungal disease or something. Ill get a better photo to show might take a while as my close ups are blurry need a good camera that dose close ups.

Is it orange rot? That seems to be the grim reaper to many grafted plants.

I grafted a harrisia onto a hylocereus then a ario kotsch onto the harrisia dont ask my why just thought it would be funny

That's a laugh, what were you thinking? Are you going to graft on top of the ario next? It could be a living artwork!
Ans those jauernigii are fantastic! Very nice plant with really fast results Top stuff!

That last one made me laugh, I remember seeing a guy who was using Astrophtym Myriostigma as a stock for other slow growers.... No idea why.

I got some peri now and will be setting up a artificial environment so i can start grafting straight away. Will post pics, never grafted this time of year so looking forward to having some fun over winter with grafting. If it wasnt for this web site and seeing the work done by other members with there grafting onto peri that now im inspired to try the same i will in spring do an experiment of seedling grafting onto five differents stocks. But spring is a long time away ive never liked winter always cold all i do is work renovating bathrooms not nearly as exciting as playin around up the back in hothouses so atleast now i can play around with the peri grafting this winter.

Seed was planted 28/1/2009 then grafted on 17/3/2009 onto a two year old harrisia seedling i degrafted the one in front around christmas time. Photo taken today 17/5/2010.

I kept about 2cm of rootstock and removed tubercles so stock wouldnt offset im happy so far with root developement it will be interesting to see roots in another twelve months.

Nice work, Cactuscook. The Lophs seem to keep nice form on the Harrisia, the rooted down one looks just about normal !

They are cute i was given some seed as i did not have this one and that was why i grafted it i dont graft these anymore. Thanks to people on this forum in sa and vic i now have heaps of peri to try grafting seedlings onto. I will be sowing astrophytum asterias cvs and ariocarpus seed tomorrow i do have some seedlings but they are five months old now and the epidermis might be to hard or thick but i might give a astro a go.

i am about to head into the shed and try grafting blossfieldia which are less than a mm across and about a month old, its a pitty i dont have a camera at the moment. i will try graft to very small peri stock and cut it right at the top of the growth point, the problem is going to be handling the tiny seedling after three beers. i purposely downed three beers to try stop the shakes ill let you know how i go!!

I would love to be trying the blossf ill have to get some seed of that. I have got everything ready to go but i was thinking should i pot up the peri now or after i graft. I definately have a itch to do some grafting. And i used rubber gloves when working with the peri and it was great no bloody prickles. Hows the nose

Darren i was thinking of cutting all the peri and root the cuts then graft to the rooted cuttings is this a good idea or just graft straight away and how old is the youngest seedling you could graft.

i would cut the peri at the same time i graft to it then just get the cuttings to take root before you graft to them, you should be able to graft to the cuttings in a week.

if you can balance a pin ontop of another pin then you should be able to graft the blossfieldia... ill keep you posted. i think the beers helped

the youngest seedling i have grafted is an astro which i grafted the same day it germinated... it took and seems to be going great. i also grafted arios for the competition at 3 days old and they did great also.

i dont have any large stock ready to go so i grafted a loph to a rebutia pulvinosa which is grafted to pereskiopsis tonight which should be interesting ill keep you posted on that one also

Now that made me laugh Sounds like ill be having some fun then could graft something different everday and its just the start of winter. By the time spring comes around omg just wish there were more hours in the day.
