| Nice plant lewis. Looks healthy too. This Genus has always fascinated me. Though I only have one very small specimen and some small seedlings .

| KanJe: this is my only flowering size specimen. they appear to be fairly easy to grow, just slow. sort of like Lophophoras in that aspect. even the flowers are similar to lophs. also they need SHADE. put them in the sun and they will burn to a crisp! aim for a greenish colour, see mine is pretty brown and that is even under 50% shade cloth. they grow in the shade in the wild. Trig: thanks, the seeds of this you sent me have germinated and are coming along nicely. Kada: agreed, lovely plants. HN: graft! Lachy: i guess approx 5-6 years. i've only had it a year or so. its been grown hard. This is probably its first ever flower. | |

I think there might be an image of this plant from the last Melbourne cacti show that's been previously posted. Here is the link if you cant find it. Obregonia graft

| I'm not 100% but I would guess that it's multiple offsets from the one scion.
I can get back to you about it if you want.

| My Obregonia denegrii f San vincente in flower yesterday. I sowed seeds on 28/09/05 and grafted several seedlings. The photo is one of grafted plants. Own-root seedlings are growing slowly. I still have around 30 seedlings sown same time but they are very small. I have tried to get seeds and crossed many times but I have not got any seeds yet. | |

| Apart from Ariocarpus, I find this genus be the slowest cactus that I have grown so far.
Does anyone find the same thing?

yeah, really slow indeed. what in find interesting is that, as far as I am aware, despite Obregonia supposedly being closely related to both Ariocarpus and Lophophora it apparently refuses to hybridise with either?

Does anyone find the same thing? Yeah my seedlings are pretty slow. I planted them with some Astrophytum, Pelecyphora and Lophophora. The Obregonias are a bit smaller than the Lophs and on par with the Pelecyphora. Still they are heaps better than the Aztekium seedlings I've got going, those buggers are slow.

| I think it is the best way to grow cacti seedling with own root even slow growing species but you can also grow them quickly by grafting and degrafting later. I saw a note said "rooting of denegrii is not difficult" on the internet. I have been attempting rooting of denegrii. Degrafted denegrii, diameter is 9.5 cm Using rooting hormon: yes, liquid one Rooting medium: Shifted cat litter I think some roots have come out from the plant in the attched photo. | |

| Welcome to the forum Blossfeldia. I had a look at your web site and you have an impressive collection. I look forward to talking with you more in the future. Hanazono - With Obregonias, do you think there is much of a difference in looks between a mature plant on its own roots and a grafted plant? From what I've seen it's harder to tell than it is with something like a Turb. or Loph. Crypto - That's the kind of standard of growth I'm aiming for. Beautiful plants by the way. What are they on the bottom left? Eriosyce? | |
