I am wondering if anyone can give me some idea of what is happening with these plants. They are all growing under shadecloth and showing scarring at the bases of the plants. Is this possibly a lack of light problem or a drainage problem?
The first species I believe is Echinocereus longisetus.....not sure of the others so if anyone can enlighten me to their names it would be appreciated

Lower part of aged cacti turns to a woody structure. It is quite normal, I think.

I did read that elsewhere so your comment confirms that... so unless one keeps propagating I guess one has to accept it... thanks..gary
