Plant ID's Empty
PostSubject: Plant ID's   Plant ID's EmptyWed Apr 13, 2016 2:29 pm

Just wondering are we able to post images of our plants for people to ID. We have a lot without names which really annoys us...well me anyway. We just received some nice plants from an elderly collector unfortunately many don't have names anymore.

TIA Karl & Noreen

You certainly can post images. On the tool bar above the comment box there is a little button that looks like a window with a floppy disk in the corner (3 icons across from the youtube button). If you put your mouse over it, it will say "host an image".

Click on the "host an image" button. A window will open up where you can select the image from your computer. Hit "send all". The image will be uploaded and the screen will change. There will be three little icons, click the middle icon. It will insert a line of code in the comment box. Where ever you position this code in the comment box will determine where the picture appears in the actual message.

If you are not sure how it will look when you post it you can press the "preview" button and it will load you message with the pictures. Once you are happy with it, hit the send button. Finished.

The solitary one I think is uebelmannia pectinifera.

Convergence is right.

Definitely uebelmannia pectinifera. Actually quite a hard cactus to keep alive. (Well... that's my experience anyway.)

The other one looks an awful lot like a copiapoa. I would hazard a guess at copiapoa krainziana. A flower picture would help a lot.

I could be wrong also. It is quite a tricky one. The plant looks blue but if you look closer it does have a very thick waxy film, also I have a copiapoa in my collection that looks a lot like this. Only difference is my copiapoa has not been grown as well and much of the wax is washed off. A flowering picture would certainly confirm if it is or not.

That is it (Uebelmannia pectinifera) I found the tag when repotting but could not read it properly as it had faded.

I will try to get a flower pick when they flower to help make it easier for positive ID. Thx all for helping.
I have just repotted nearly all (about 50 parent plants) some are over 40 years old. Many of the tags were faded but with google and your help I hope to get as many named properly as possible.

Sounds like a wonderful acquisition! I'm sure I speak for many here when I say we would love to see some more of your collection.
