Astrophytum asterias cv shin-syouwa kabuto

Altough the summer has been started, the temperature is not high enough in here. I think a very cool sommer this year.
Some of my asterias failed to open floweres.
The attached photo is asterias cv shin-syouwa kabuto, thin petales flower, took photo last year.
It was failed to open flower twice this year.

I've never seen this CV before. The flower looks insane!
Where did you get your hands on to this one Hanazono?

Have you tried crossing it with another astro yet?

This is a true flower of shin-syowa kabuto.
You can buy seeds from a seeds supplier in VIC but it is hard to hit true one.

This cultivar is really nice, we like it!
But seedlings seems to be quite weak, did you notice it too?

You are correct. Seedlings of shin-syouwa kabuto are weak.

Has anyone tried to cross these with anything else. If so have there been any resluts with flowers of shin-syouwa characteristics?

Japanese has transferred the flower of shin-syowa characteristics to myriostigma.
The following forms have been existing:
myriostigma shin-syowa
myriostigma cv Onzuka shin-syowa
myriostigma v nudum cv kho-yo, kikko, shin-syowa

Hello Hanazono, myrio with syowa flower are really nice!
this is one of our asterias syowa plants (the photo is from june 2008):



with fruits:



but seedlings germinated and most of them died, those that remained are covered of little red spots, red flower asterias seedlings seems to be stronger.
We hope next year to make pure asterias syowa seeds, but past summer we made syowa x hanazono.
