| Hi everyone, I was recently having a conversation with someone about what cacti we collect and why. I would love to see pictures of everyone’s collection - not to size up and compare but just to see how you do it. Please include your interests and pictures. I'm pretty anal with my collecting. With the small number of plants I have I like each genus together and species lined up. With the plants lined up in square pots (where possible) biggest at the back seedlings at the front - sickies off to the side... etc I know people who have the whole lot in one big pile. That’s just how they like it! Would love to see how you do it. I will get pics of mine when I get a chance. J Cheers Jim | |

| this would be an interesting excercise. I have only been collecting for about 18months and have many different species of plants. with getting such a lot at one time and not knowing anything much at all to start with its been a learning curve to seay the least. now I have found out which ones like more shade and which ones are too spiney to have at the front of the benches. now I have my cactus in the middle row with the tallest in the middle .the very tall cactus are at the end of the side row of benches where I can be sure that they won't topple over.As it becomes more risky for frost damage some of the cactus outside are coming in and I've put up frost protection fabric to minimise the damage I see today that it also catches the condensation from the polyhouse covering too. hope to have a designated space for seed propagation .still on hubby's drawing board to date.I'll post up some pics of the poly house and benches soon. | |

| Cool thread, mine are all over the place. Down the drive way, in the carport which has no room for a car, in the home made hothouse, on the heat mat and where ever there is room | |

| The twisting barrel cactus in front of my lovely looking Pajero is an unkown Trichocereus, see pictured below, the tall one in the middle. I received a cutting from a friend who lives near Geelong, I think you know him. | |

| Nice plants Betty Looks like you have plenty of space to spread out too. What are the plants you're growing in the terracotta pots on the tiered shelves in the background of the second photo? | |

Thanks Squil, plenty of space is true but believe it or not these and hundreds of others have to be shifted nearly 600kms in the future
do you have any plans as to how you will do that? once you get a collection like yours you can't just stuff it down by your feet and drive 600kms. !

| Very easy to grow............I have over 600 seedlings and some are going dormant at the moment. I did put the young ones on some heat and planted more seeds last weekend I am a glutton for punishment When they go dormant you must keep them dry and away from any frost. I lost some at the onset of spring last year They just go to mush. If you get them early enough you can save them by cutting out the rot and hang them till all is healed then repot. I would guess and say that most of the ones on the stand are 2/3 years old. Some are grafted plants that have been imported. | |

Lots of plans, the big cacti will taken bare rooted and the others will be packed in LOTS of boxes with newpaper around them. The removalists can then cart them for me I will have to take plenty of pics when it all happens
