| G'day everyone, The Spring Show for the NSW C & S Society is on Saturday, 9am to 4pm, 27 October. It is held at Eden Gardens, at the corner of Lane Cove & Fontenoy Roads, North Ryde 2113. It's a great place to buy all sorts of wonderful plants, as there will be a number of vendors there. There's at least one lithops specialist who will be there, and another fellow who has copiapoas, thelos & turbinicarpus. I have often gotten a good number of hard finds there. Free Parking & Entry at the gardens. | |

| Well, my 20kg, half meter in diameter Mammillaria plumosa just narrowly missed winning Grand Champion. Overall, I did good, finishing this show with 7 Honourable Mentions, 8 Second Prize and 10 1st Prizes. | |

| Damn! Love the "cousin it" lookalike! And that plumosa kicks! How do you get water into the pot? | |

| The answer is "very carefully". I am in the process of repotting it, I just had to get a new pot today. The new pot is over half a meter wide, but will allow for my prizewinner to keep on growing The interesting bit is that the roots are not very deep on it, so a shallow pot works pretty good. And yeah, I love that Wookie cactus. The crested rebutia was around half a meter across, very big healthy ownrooted crest. Wild stuff. | |

| Thinking about repotting mine aswell but the prospect scares the living daylights out of me! It's still in the same pot I bought it in and it's just to darn deep to dry out the way I'd like it to. Going to go with either a bowl or halfheight pot if I can find one in a size that fits. | |

| Nowhere close to what that beast of yours look like! Here's what it looked like when I got it home from Hamiltons a few months back, haven't changed much since then. In a 15cm pot that's way to deep for it I'd say. | |

| The pot mine is in currently isn't even 20cm now, so that one probably is too deep. Nice cute little plumosa there. That one is going to be a LOT easier to repot! | |

| Ought to be and it frightens me just that tad less than my 2 small M. senilis that also need repots. Last time I did one of those I had to call out for help to get it removed from my hand | |

| I just recently was put in charge of repotting my friends leaning meter+ tall double headed A ornatum var miribelli. Took 4 of us to move it and the spines were vicious. I wrapped it with multiple layers of bubblewrap, tied cords around all of that, and put some towels around all of that. Then we moved it so it was next to the new pot, added in some soil, packed it down (inclined in the same plane as the bottom of the root ball). Then I cut around the bottom of the old pot, so the base came off as a big plastic circle. Then all 4 of us lifted the old pot, set it into the new pot, and then once it was in place, I cut down the sides of the old plastic pot, and pulled it out in 2 pieces. Almost easy. Except for the hernias we all must have gotten!
I'll load a photo as soon as I get it off my phone.

| That is a wonderful Mamm bocasana. I really like how prolific the flowers are on those when they are kept well, like yours. Did you know that you can sometimes get a fair guess at their age by counting the rows of previous fruit rings on them? You can also see each year how much they have grown too. My old collection which was destroyed, had a 3 meter trich in a pot inside my offices. It grew until it started pushing the ceiling panels out, and we had to trim it.
My current collection grows on a weekly basis and all I can say is that I am glad that my wife loves cacti as much as I do. In fact she buys more cacti then I do, as I grow a lot of what I have from seed.

| Gorgeous bocasana! I've got 2 small ones that still are single headed but with time I hope they will take off. @IXOXI: might just hire you in if I have to move my 5 foot cereus from it's current spot mate! It's just putting out to much growth a year to really stay where it is for much longer, have a feeling the neighbours might start complaining once it starts growing over the fence and into their pergola. | |

| I'm leaving it untill I know it annoys them mate. If I have to live with their ever screaming kids on the other side of the fence then they can live with some cereus branches through the pergola, fair is fair right? | |
