| So excited. Finally one of my Ferocactus is beginning to flower. I like collecting Ferocactus because they are fast growing, tough and dangerous to have around. The spines on these plants are ridiculous! I remember reading somewhere that the spines give Ferocactus a significant evolutionary advantage in that when the desert floods the spines catch on passing debris. This, coupled with a shallow root system allows them to be uprooted and transported to low points and depressions in the terrain where water is most likely to collect. This one is Ferocactus macrodiscus multiflorus. Seed grown and approximately 3 seasons old. | |
