| One of E. grusonii seedlings ??? has pushed flowering buds up. I sowed seeds in September 2000. 21 seedlings have survived in my vegepatch. They were buried in weeds during winter but are showing bodies becuse weeds are going to die. The seedling with flowering buds is 40 cm diameter. | |

| Very similar in flower to my Echinocereus reichenbachii var. baileyi that flowered the other week. Got more buds coming right now than what I really could post, just about all my Echinopsis and Gymno's are in bud at the moment while alot of my Mammillaria's already have passed their flowering peak. | |

| This is a true hanazono kabuto, pushing 21 flowering buds up together. I bought 14 seeds in 2003 and sowed. True hanazono kabuto was just 1. I grafted the seedling and the scion made many offsets. This is one of offsets grafted on a Myrtillocactus stock. The plant is elongated, 13 cm diameter and 19 cm height. The history of cultivar hanazono kabuto is unclear. | |

| Amazing plat Hanazono, elongation would be due to grafting I suspect, Or was the original plant never grafted ? It really is disappointing at how low of a percentage of 'true' plants your get from a crossing. Last year I was lucky and got a heap (80%) of true to form cultivars that looked very promising, the only problem is most of them are dead due to the Mice infestation I had at he end of last season. Who would have thought Astrophytum ...and in particular Asterias would be so high up on the food chain. I even lost a few mature Myiostrigma and even an 20cm diameter Capricorn which they managed to eat around the spines ??, I suspect this damage was due to a rat rather than a mice, the amount eaten was incredible. I finally got some good rodenticide and I look to have beaten them. P.S don't bother buying any mice/rat killer from Bunnings all of it was rubbish besides the Tomcat all weather blocks but they have stopped stocking them in my area. I bought 5kg of Ratsack with Warfarin in it, they just ate it all like It was dinner. All gone in less thank 3 weeks and nil dead. Then I bought the stronger Ratsack all weather blocks, they worked for about 2 days and the mice caught on and stopped eating them, apparently they are not palatable enough. IF you can find it get Tomcat or even better Tomcat II (Red Pellets), just be real careful with the red pellets they will kill anything, birds, dogs, wildlife etc. Apparently 5-6 grams will kill a large dog, so you need to be very selective where you put the bait stations. Over the last 6months I have learnt a lot about Rodents, they are quite smart and adaptive and have a strong sense of survival. You really need a systematic plan to completely get rid of them. My problem is my greenhouse backs on to the neighbours fence where they have a huge bird aviary and obviously a massive rodent problem. I guess I should go and speak to them about it. There must have been hundreds before I killed them all off. HN Edit: Sorry I got a bit off topic I just needed a good old fashioned rant | |

| Hellonasty The elongation comes from the grafting. Own-root hanazono kabuto is very flat. More flowering buds coming up! Asterias, pollination with this flower can make variegated seedlings. Aztekium hintonii Discocactus heptacanthus v griseus I assume this one opened flowers last night. | |

Here are some more buds: Echinocereus subinermis, four years old. Opuntia macrocentra Ferocactus (Hamatocactus) hamatacanthus Rebutia lauii ? seed grown. Graptopetalum pentandrum Cheers Snah | |

| The temperature in my greenhouse was 53 'C this afternoon. Frailea come to fruition without opening flowers normally but some plants pushed flower buds up because of very high temperature. The photo is Frailea castanea cv oogata shidou. I assume the flower bud will open sometime in this afternoon. | |

Yes it is. Oogata means large type and shidou is just Japanese name of castenea. The photo one is 5 cm daimeter, will grow larger.
