| Such an awesome sight Hanazono! How do you keep your scions from bloating and forming to many offsets, "over-pupping"? Most of my pereskiopsis and hylocereus grafts made on taller stock have pupped to much and sometimes split. Only my grafts on shorter length stock have remained solitary. My taller Peres grafts are about the same height as yours, 15cm, but almost all of these have way to many pups, making it hard to see the true form of the scion. This is with ariocarpus, astrophytum, and lophophora.
(I have noticed with ariocarpus that if the scion is cut much shorter before grafting then it is less likely to pup. The taller Ario scions always pup.)
Thanks | |

| Yes grafted scions tend to make many offsets. Scions of Astropytum may split if you grafted them.
If you grafted Ariocarpus seedlings at the joint of tap-root, you get many offsets. I use this character for kotschoubeyanus.
I normally remove all offsets when scions are degratfed, 2 years old. | |

| Updated photo This scion, Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus v elephantideus will be 1 year old soon. The growing speed has not been significant but it pushes flowering buds up. | |

| I cut old shoots of Pereskiopsis off yesterday. Young off shoots will be used as grafting stocks and so this job is necessary in this season. Off shoots will be formed in September. | |

| I moved grafted seedlings in 2015 to north end of the greenhouse today. The north end can receive more sunshine than south. They will be kept there 1 more year until degrafting time coming. A space is made on south end for the seedling grafts in this year. I can keep up to 174 pots on there. The photo is grafted seedlings in 2015, set on the north end of the greenhouse, 96 pots. | |
