Storm and cactus devastation Empty
PostSubject: Storm and cactus devastation    Storm and cactus devastation EmptyMon Feb 20, 2012 10:17 am

Last night there was a storm at my place, I wasn't there, and my dog went bonkers he broke in to my cactus shelter and has killed a heap of my best plants. Mostly Lophophora SP, some grafted some not. The heat braking thing is I have grown some of these plants for 7-8 years and they are taken away in the blink of an eye.

I would take a photo but I can't bear to look at them at the moment.

A sad day

Really sorry to hear that HN. That's truly terrible news. I hope you can at least save some pups for grafting.

We also had the bad thunderstorm, fortunately nothing devastating eventuated.

All of the plants in this thread are either dead or very badly mutilated. Most have been ripped off the stock plants.

I think the caespitosa is still good, thank god.

Oh no...

Is there any salvageable material left? Would you be able to callus and root or re-graft the damaged plants? I'd be looking at salvaging even the offsets.

Here is a quick pic of one of the more salvageable plants.

Geez, you weren't kidding... that's devastating. If you get some sulfur powder onto the damaged surfaces you should be able to prevent rot from taking hold, and will likely be rewarded with a bunch of pups next season.

I am really sorry to hear that HN. I know i would be devastated so my heart goes out to you. I had a similar thing happen to me the dog got into my seedling house and destroyed 5 trays of lithops seedlings lucky they we still young and 3trays were unamed ones so it didnt set me back too much but having 7-8 year old plants destroyed would be heart breaking.
It seems you have had a little bad luck lately firstly the rats or mice now the dog hopefully that is all behind you now. If i can help you out with any offsets or the like let me know. Very Happy

I appreciate the offer CC, I may just take you up on that. I will assess the damage properly first.
