T.pachanoi cuttings

Hey guys,
So I have 1 T.pachanoi which at guess is maybe 1 foot long, question is would it be advisable to lop the top off as a cutting?
I'd like to increase my number of them for future grafting. From what I've read once the top is cut off they pup like crazy and you can increase the numbers you have rather quickly.

Also would I better waiting until spring?

I would wait until the growing season. The cutting will take root better and the top will throw pups quicker as well.

To be honest I don't think my pach has stopped growing since I bought it, even more so since I repotted it into a large pot but will wait until spring so it's a bit warmer. Melbourne has been icy cold the last week or so (nothing under 5c) but still been rather cold. Don't want to risk my chances of a successful cutting all for a impatience!

What I do when I get or take cuttings in the "Off" season is first let it callous up nice and thick, you want a nice clean white surface. Once calloused take an old long black sock and pull it over from the calloused end up to about 1/3 of the total length. Store the cutting in a place where it gets minimal light I.E garage etc. Once it warms up take the sock off and you should have some roots .

what a neat trick! can believe i havnt heard of it before or evenconjured up a similar idea myself.
thanks hn. im of to find some odd socks... we all know how hard it is to find an odd sock dont we. lol.

one question hn. is the cutting orientated in a particular way. ie standing upright or laying down?

i would imagine being upright would perhaps be better in terms of potential new growth at the tip. so new growth would grow upright as opposed to 90* to cutting?

Does the base plant need any special attention? Aside from making sure the cut doesn't get wet?

my experiance ive just made sure the area is free from moisture, dampness and the cutting kept out of light.

however this teky is a little diferant. although hn suggest the wound calouses prior to dressing it in a sock (genius) and promoting root formation.

i always have them laying down till the wound has become fairly hard like newspaper or so then i stand em upright in a cane basket witch still allows airflow across the cut but the plant is upright incase it decides to put on growth.

It doesn't matter how you store it really, just keep it dry and make sure it gets a little light.
