Grafting Hylocereus seedling as scion

The title of this topic is no mistake: Hylocereus is the scion.

Two days ago I repotted some Hylocereus seedlings and one of them broke (the cactus-looking part broke off from the cotyledon part). Then I thought of grafting it so yesterday I attempted to graft it to Schlumbergera russelliana (I think that's what it is) as it was the only thing available apart from the obvious other seedlings.

Does anyone know if this will make it grow faster than the others or how long I need to wait to see if it worked?
This is my first grafting attempt.

The Hylo is a powerful grower and I think the Schlumbergera will not have enough
energy to support that. But anyway.. its worth a try. Keep us informed.

I have done some experiments with a few different Epiphyllum type species and have not found any that are reliable grafting stocks, with the exception of Hylocereus which is amazing. There is no harm giving it a shot but I think Snah is right the Epiphyllum will not have enough energy once the hylo gets bigger and you won't be able to tell if it is a good grafting stock or not because the hylo is so amazingly accommodating that almost anything will grow under it or on it

I was never intending on using it as a permanent stock, only to save the seedling. If it works and it grows then I might decide to swap them around when it's bigger.

When should I know if it worked?

When it plumps up and gets fatter, it has taken. It varies but around 7 days.
