I managed to buy this 3cm grafted Super Kabuto has heavy markings so I couldn't resist. Has a flower bud, as does one of my A. ornatum, I think I might try crossing them when they finally open. Just thought I'd share.

Great score ! I quite like the flecking/pattern on that one, the gold tinges are also nice.

I believe there are a few ebay sellers who put one or two up periodically. Other than that get some seed and get growing/grafting Smile

Over the last 3 weeks, I bought all the super kabuto seeds that were for sale on ebay, and most have germinated already.

I do not know why but many super kabutos were in flower 2 days ago.
I have increased numbers of own-rooted super kabutos and remained not so may grafted ones.
The photo is one of my grafted super kabutos which was in flower 2 days ago.
the diameter is around 10 cm.

They are only a couple weeks so nothing special looking yet, once the get a bit bigger I'll try and get some pics, I don't have a great camera so really little scions are a bit hard for me to take decent pics of them. I also got some A asterias cultivar seeds from Hellonasty they are doing well and the grafted ones are starting to look great. Pics I think by the end of February when the scion will be a better size hopefully.

Heh, I got some of those from HN too, I planted them a week or 10 days ago (I'd have to read the tag I put in the seed tray to be sure). They sprung up like weeds, and have been looking pretty happy in there Very Happy
I have more super kabuto in the same tray, so it will be interesting to see at what point they start to look different.

The weather in this morning was not so good but a super kabuto started to open a flower. This one is not red flowering form but the flower color becomes reddish in late summer and autumn. I propagated this one from seed. The current size is 8 cm diameter.

IXOXI

I sowed seeds on 06/08/2007 and so this one is around 4 years and 6 months old. I have 6 years old super kabutos. They are around 11~12 cm diameter.

Since super kabuto is small cactus, 11~12 cm diameter is the almost maximum size.

I collected seed from this plant crossed with an A asterias, the seed germinated well and I have attempted to graft a few seedling today onto peres. So hopefully a few have taken.
