Kandahar The Crazy Empty
PostSubject: Kandahar The Crazy   Kandahar The Crazy EmptyThu Sep 06, 2012 6:47 pm

Just thought I better do the right thing and introduce myself Smile
I dont have much time to do a proper post, so I will finish it on my break.
So yeah, I'm Kandahar. Mid 20's and can't get enough of cactus and succulents and have started finding more and more interesting ones.

I have the usual suspects like Lophophora, Cereus species, random succulents and Trichocereus ect but am now on the hunt for other types that you wont find at bunnings blah blah blah. If anyone knows of any rather interesting ones I should know of just holla! As long as it has aeroles and is remotely a cactus or succulent im kean! I am currently on the hunt for different types of dragon fruit (might post something elsewhere for that one) and also am looking to purchase an Astro as I am yet to aquire one to the collection.

Dont be shy, I wont! I have been told I talk WAY too much Smile

Peace
~Kandahar

G'day Kandahar, nice to have you here.
I've seen a few different kinds of dragonfruit seeds available on ebay for sale at various times.
Now as far as good cacti to get, you should look into getting some Ariocarpus, Astrophytums & Aztekuims.

An Astrophytum is definately on the list!! and Ariocarpus look more and more apealing also. But the Aztekuim, I will need to investigate further! But with the dragonfruit, I was hoping to get the ball rolling with some/a cut.. But I shall look into it further
And thankyou for welcoming me also.
Take care

Peace

No worries mate. There's a lot of variety among the Ariocarpus species, and even a number of cultivars that are pretty amazing. This is my favorite Ario cultivar, which I currently have 1 seedling of:

http://www.cactuspedia.info/schede/ARIOCARPUS/Ariocarpus_fissuratus/Ariocarpus_fissuratus_godzilla/Ariocarpus_fissuratus_godzilla.htm

Some other interesting ones to look up (and a bit harder to find but unusual and well worth growing, are Obregonia denegrii, Leuchtenbergia principis, Geohintonia mexicana, Discocactus horstii var Red Form & Uebelmannia pseudopectinifera var Red Form).
Cheers,
IX

Wow, that Ario is crazy! I think you have just opened the door to a whole other world for me IXOXI.

They are all amazing looking plants, I have some serious searching to do now. Lucky its the season for it!

I personally like any of the Uebelmannia's, just beautiful.

Peace
