PostSubject: scions not showing form   scions not showing form EmptySat Dec 27, 2008 7:20 pm

Hi,

I have some grafted astrophytum which seem to be not showing their true characteristics. I know grafted plants often look different to how they would grownormally but I never thought it would be this different..

how about this.... its pretty funny really.

Astro Myrio tricostatum grafted onto Hylocereus = with 4 ribs?

Astro Myrio quad grafted onto opuntia = with 5 ribs

Astro Myrio Kikuko nuda grafted onto hylocereus = with flocking (not nuda) the flocking does rub off very easy though.

any thoughts?

Hey mate. The CV's you stated with 3 or 4 ribs are very hit and miss in regards to what you actually get !! I put 30 Astro Myrio Tricostatum down early in winter and only 4 or 5 of them had 3 ribs. The rest had 4 or 5.

Dense flocking is very common on grafted plants. Once the graft grows a bit it will sort itself out.

like HN said, parents of 3 ribs each can give 3/4/5 ribs no problem....thats just what was in the cards, grafting didnt do it, only made it happen sooner Smile
