I briefly visited the Royal Botanic Gardens yesterday while in Sydney.
I grabbed a lot of photos, heres some from the succulent garden:

A LOT of plants were not labeled, so some i ID'd myself and i'd appreciate IDs on any i don't know.

Great photos. That Cereus peruvianaus monstrose is an absolute ripper, and that Euphorbia is just beautiful.

I wonder what the deal is with the decapitated scop, though?

Nice pics Plantsoma Smile

That second last one is Soehrensia sp. I think, which now is named something else Rolling Eyes the name escapes me.

How is that chunky Opuntia. What a beast.

I have some amusing memories of that montrose one from when I was at the gardens last...

RE: The decapitated scop.
It had a tiny pup emerging from the back corner which was out of frame in my photo.
It has a massive diameter, thats why i put the AA batteries as scale.
If its only just started to pup at that stage tells me it cant have been cut too long ago.
I didn't see any other scops either, so it wasn't as if they took a cutting and replanted it.
Something interesting i noticed. (sorry mods, not sure if this is getting into something that shouldnt be discussed here - please edit out if need be) but there were no species there which contain known alkaloids and considering how many species this covers and how common they are, it seemed to me that to not have some of the beautiful San Pedros which would look so effective in a garden like this suggest to me that this might have been taken into consideration when they designed the garden. Other botanical gardens ive seen display the full range of species.
When gardens are wrecked by vandals, cactus seem to be targeted for some reason.
Beautiful garden, though some of those cacti need a fert.

Yep, that scop looks snapped and not cut, theives or vandals for sure, you can also see it looks like a pup/branch was removed from the base.

There are other scops in the gardens. Just not in the cacti section Rolling Eyes

Wish you had gotten photos of the group of Melocactus, they look so cool!!
