just thought i'd show you guys my seedlings.

they were germinated in april.

i did have them in a little propigator, but then i got my pereskiopsis, and needed more room to keep them growing in this cold weather.

i found this clothes hamper i bought form IKEA, so i took the material off and kept the metal frame. then i went to clarkes rubber, and got them to cut me some of the thickest clear pvc sheeting they had. silicon onsides, and vuola! a makeshift fishtank/humidity tank. i was to poor to buy a real tank, but this one is probably better.

i threw in some loph seeds and some T. Peruvianas icaros DNA just on tuesday.

i also tried my hand at grafting a seedling onto pereskiopsis today aswell. i'm not too fussed if it doesn't take.

is it normal for pereskiopsis to send roots out above ground? one of mine is sending them out about 5cm above ground scratch

what a lot of seedlings!
my peres have done th same thing at times - My Peres did this when I overwatered my plants and the roots started to rot - so watch out for that.

are you going to grart some of those Trichocereus seedling onto the peres to give them a headstart?

yes, i tried grafting one last night, but it was harder than i thought.

and i'm going to dig up one of the peres right now too see if there is any rotting. i think i may have overwatered.

Great set up, well done! A cheap way to do it too. What kind of light are you using?

Good job on the seedlings Smile It looks pretty humid inside that fish tank, and thats my bet for the roots. High humidity will make plants to strange things.

the light is just a regular light fixture i bought from bunnings. although because it is meant to be wired into mains power, it comes with no power chord to plug into the wall. i just cut a chord off a small heater that i no longer wanted, and wired it to the light fixture.

the globes are 2 two foot 18 Watt 5000k flurescent tubes, i picked them up from bunnings as well.

i must add that this is the first time i have grown form seed too, so it's quite exciting to watch each stage.

Nice seedlings Smile
i have a similar setup and my peresk does occasionally send down these aerial roots. Like HN says i think it may be due to the very high humidity in there...sorta like they are turning into epiphytic orchids! Shocked
