Help for a Newbie

Hi everyone,

I am just starting out my collection and was wondering if someone could help me with some advice on my Echinocereus Viridiflorus. I think a bit to much sun????

Any advice on saving the little bugger would be appreciated

Hi there,
Could be shock if it has been suddenly placed in a very sunny spot.
Also could be for lack of water (a lot of my cacti are turning red and shriveling but they are in their winter rest so its to be expected)

Can you provide some more background.

How long have you had the plant?
What conditions was it in prior to you acquiring it?
How much water have you given it?
Is the plant body soft or firm?

I have only had the plant a about 3 weeks. When I got it it was mainly green with a few spots of red around the top. In that time the top has got more red and the green has disappeared entirely.

I kept in under my patio for about a week after I got it. It was not getting any direct sun but the area is fairly light. After the week I placed it out on a wall in the yard were it was getting direct sun until about 11-11:30am.

I have watered it twice it that time but it has also had a bit of rain.

The body from what I can tell is still firm.

I have bought it back in to the patio but am not sure if that is the right thing to do?

Ok,
So it's likely that it's suffering a bit of sun stroke. Best to keep it in a bright but sheltered spot while it recovers.
Also 3 waters (2 from you & the rain) in 3 weeks is quite a lot.
QLD weather is obviously very different to VIC but still need to ge mindful of not drowning the plant, it's much easier to kill a cacti from too much water than not enough (I've killed plenty this way!)

See how the little guy goes in the sheltered spot, should bounce back in a few weeks.
If the plant body becomes soft it could be rot which aside from grafting any remaining healthy tissue is not fixable.
