sorry If I offend any one, but I have looked high and low for good propagating, builders & you name it sand, its all really silty & after washing and sieving you are left with nothing.
wish I could get my hands on some of that NSW & QLD stuff!

I got some brunnings brand propagating sand and gave it a good siv wash and bake and this is what I have left, is it to course for germinating?

Excellent sand - I'd agree with Trig and say it's ready to use in seed germination - especially some of the fine mexican seed.

The propagation sand I use is alot finer than that.

I put the grade sand that you have shown in the bottom of my containers and use fine sand on top of it.

After sowing the seed, I use even finer sand and lightly sprinkle it over the seed.

I purchased some chemical sieves off ebay and they came in about 5-6 different sizes so its easy to get different grades needed.

Seeds will grow in just about anything though in the right enviroment.
