Greeting folks,

Well the cacti fever has truly taken hold!
I started with a handful of potted plants and then decided to move on to seeds, I now have 15 containers dotted throughout my lounge room and another 8 lots of seeds on order.
The potted plant count has grown too.

Think it's time I reigned it in for a bit but on the other hand I may just accept it and continue on my cacti journey, I still have 2 spare rooms that have absolutely no cacti seedling trays in them.

Food for thought.....

Quite sure, there is a law somewhere, that states " Thou shalt have cacti seedling trays, in EVERY room in your house "  Laughing

haha nice one ali.

Let it be known by all. Thou shalt have cacti seedling trays, in EVERY room in your house. And so you shall as thy cactus lord commands it be so.

One can never have too many cacti.

The disease progresses with time and there is no known cure.

Big lol!
The direction this post took is an absolute cracker!

Thought I'd share some photos of the cactus army that is slowly forming in my lounge room!
The second photo is a heated tray I built to keep the temp consistent on cold days and promote root development, all up it cost under $50, if you would like any info about it just let me know.

nice army comrade.
yes post about your $50 heating efforts. ide like to know what methods you use.
btw. is that a terrarium i see? little hard to work out but looks like it could be?

ftr. my first batch of seedys were heated through an electric blanket. cost under $30. i just taped the rug around a large pot full of mix with my seed trays in the soil... worked a treat.
then i discovered i could just leave my stereo amplifier on 24/7 and it suplied perfect heat for my babies. then i moved my speakers closer to the mix and wella... germination rates exploded.
magnetic therapy.

The way I constructed the heat bed was with the plastic tub with a layer of gravel and a reptile cord heater. It runs on a timer so I don't have to remember to switch it on and off
You can pick up the cords on ebay for about $20 the tub was $5 the timer was $5 and the gravel I already had but can't imagine there'd be more than $10 worth even if you went to the highway robbers in the big green or blue shed!

It doesn't heat to an extreme level, it's a gentle heat just enough to keep the seedlings nice and warm.

Rather simple solution that doesn't require any wiring, heavy lifting or complex thoughts!
Only problem now is I need to build another one!
