PostSubject: Repotted Collaboration   Repotted Collaboration EmptyFri Jun 27, 2008 10:44 pm

Hey guys, I guess I'm fairly new to this forum so I thought I might start off by showing you all some cacti from my green house. Some of them are my good mate Prier's as I'm look after them for him while he his travelling.
I only thought to put them in this section as most of the cacti featured are mexican.
Anyways if anyone wants a closer pic or something just let me know...

I'll post some more later in the year...
Cheers.

That green blob is a Mammillaria bocasana cv. FRED, probally my favourite cactus that I have ever seen. In my opinion there isnt a cactus that is more monstrose than this one.

Hey Lewis, The label that came with it said Aylosteria heliosa but my mate said it has fallen under different generi before.
I just made this mix with Prier hence the thread subect. We used 2 x 30 ltr bags of 7ml escoria I think, about 1/5 of a bag of sand, a little lime, some slow release food and some high grade general potting mix.
I guess time will tell whether they like it or not.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I really appreciate it. Its good sometimes to get a positive reaction from people rather than that typical weirdo look that you get from your family and friends. Thanks.

Here is the best pic I could get with my phone that has both the plants mentioned...
Also chucked in a close up of my two favourite astros... Laughing

Awesome A.asterias!! 2 really great specimens. Smile

Yep, thats what i thought it is.
It is now called rebutia heliosa.
here is my var. 'melanistic' grafted on myrtillocactus, one of my first successful grafts. its somewhat unnaturally inflated (effect of the stock). it was about the size of one of the tiny offsets on it when first grafted. it grew very fast. the main clump it came from is about 10cms across. in contrast to the normal heliosa which has orange flowers, this variety is red: the graft will look cool when it flowers.

Yeah Rebutia heliosa. I have one of those and I also have a Rebutia heliosa var. condorensis. Nice plants.

Good collection Kanje, some great looking Astros in there and good to finally see you here at ACF.

Nice graft lewis. Wouldn't mind hitting you up for a pup of that v. melanistic come spring time. Let me know if you are keen to trade.

It is quite rare and highly sort after, probably becuase it is so unique, monstrose and cool. i have seen large specimens fetch high prices on ebay. i was lucky enough to get a small one for $8. Smile

I still remember that Lewis.
Somehow how you seem to get in just before me everytime and then I'm left shouting while shaking my fists in the air.

Thanks Trigonus, I'm sure my collection has grown since you last heard from me but its nice to get good feed back.

My girlfriend recently got a new digi so I might post some images of my other plant and some close ups this week end. Smile

LOL... Kanje remember, you are first on the list for a cutting of the lophocereus schottii monstrose (my avatar) Wink That is if you haven't got one already.
I really like your avatar, the reverted tubercle on Fred is cool.
Look how many different types of Fred there are:

Mammillaria bocasana monstrose (not Fred) a diff one.. looks like some sea creature.
cactus-art is the best place for the lover of monstrose, crests, rare cacti etc.

Nice choice of showing the scale dude, classy.
