Winter Seedling Help

Hello to all.

I have 5 or 6 takeaway containers outside that were sown late last year, still at a small size what should I do with them with the coming cold weather?

At first thought I think they should come inside with a heat mat of some sort but I have no artificial lighting . Will they survive just on the windowsill ?

Any further advice would be amazing as one container is a nice hybrid that I cannot get anymore!

What species (or hybrid, cultivar, etc.) are they? I don't have much experience with seed-raising but I would guess that knowing the species would be the first step to knowing how best to treat them. That said, my Hylocereus sp. seedlings are still growing from last summer outside with minimal protection despite their supposed cold-intolerance.

I am also pondering this issue. I have a large number o lophies and pelecyphora seedlings on the go. Not to sure how they will handle the cold. Perhaps an investment in lighting is the best way to go.

If you don't have any lights, go with a good sunny window sill and a heat mat. I have mine in a container with a clear lexcen lid and a big fluro grow lamp over it. 18 hour light cycle. They seem to be doing well so far.

If you're not looking to grow them during winter, witholding water, low temps and low light will likely lead them to go dormant. They'll shrink and look a bit poorly, but they'll come good again in the spring when the warmth and water returns...
