| I have tried to make a strawberry-milk color cacti. I crossed: (1) Astrophytum myriostigma cv Onzuka x myriostigma v nudum cv red bean khoyo, kikkou (2) Astrophytum myriostigam v nudum cv red bean khoyo, kikkou x myriostigma cv Onzuka Sown seeds on 07/10/09 I grafted 4 seedlings (1) and 3 seedlings (2). It seems seedlings (1) showing strawberry-milk color. | |

| Hellonasty The attached photo is one of second crossings, taken yeserday. I selected 3 seedlings showing Onzuka chracter and grafted. Since fathers' gene was too strong, the scion was a simple "Shima-iri Onzuka" as shown in the photo. More than 50 seedlings germinated from same seeds patch have been remained. I will select several seedlings and will graft next spring. Hanzono | |

| rado It is early autumn in here. The plant has been turning from summer color, green to autum/winter color i.e. khoyo. I think it will be red in spring becuse the father is red bean-khoyo. It is a yellow cake in this morning. The diameter of the plant is 5.5 cm. Hanazono | |

| I would better call it A. myriostigma cv. ONZUKA KOHYO, than some "senseless" name like "strawberry milk" | |

| Strawberry-milk is not name of the cactus, the color of the catus body. My plant is not A. myriostigma cv Onzuka Khoyo. My plant is just 1st filial A. myriostigma cv Khoyo x A. myriostigma cv Onzuka. Since the gene is not solid enough and can not create same one by crossing 2 plants.
If you called a catus as cv Onzuka Khoyo, you must be able to create Onzuka Khoyo by crossing 2 cacti of Onzua Khoyo. I saw many Onzuka with Khoyo character but they were all 1st filial. I never seen cultivar Onzuka Khoyo. Have you seen the cultivar Onzuka Khoyo?

| The special body color on the photo is not variegation, related khoyo character. Khoyo character means: -Turning body color during autumn to spring only, green in other seasons -Turning body color during juvenile only, matured plants do not change body color The plant on the photo is too old and can not show the best color. The next photo is a young A. myriotigma v nudum cv red-bean khoyo, kikkou. The plant has started to show kikkou character. | |

| I'm going to need to look into these Japanese cultivars for sure! I am guessing they're slow growing like the others? Thanks for sharing Hananzo, very very nice pictures.

| A. myriostigma cv khoyo was developed by a Japanese hobby cactus collector, Mr Nakamura. Mr Yoshinaga introduced this plant in public as "momiji rampo(maiple-myriostigma) in 1975. The plant is currently called "khoyo rampo(autumn-foliages myriostigma). Base colors are yellow. orange, red and chocolate.
The growing speed of own root plant is slightly slower than normal myriostigma, similar speed to asterias. Since rooting from cuttings is very easy, seedling grafting and degrafting later will be a good option.
