Big day today. I'm going to switch out all of my round pots with square ones. I have the tweezers and band aides at a ready. This is going to hurt.

Ever had that feeling where you want to do something but the odds of pulling it off is stacked against you? Well you should listen to that feeling. It's usually right.

Attempted to move a big pachanoi today. A branch looked a bit flimsy and I had a feeling it was going to fall over. Just didn't expect it to fall on my head whilst carrying the pot. OUCH!!! Sad

i always find positives. for instance, if you were this guy afro  i doubt it would have hurt sobad.

and, if you were this guy rendeer   your antlers may have stopped the sharp pointy stuff from pokeing your head.
furthermore if you were this guy cheers you might have been able to catch it before it was to late.

then theres this guy alien hes green to. but he is not sharp and spikey. he would feel much more pleasant if he bumped into your head.....

Hahaha nice one wert!

It certainly did. Seems that was not the worst of the pain in store for me this weekend. After doing the garden we went for a 4x4 up to some little known about caves.

Turns out centipede's like living in caves. (surprise, surprise)

After several hours of excruciating pain, a trip to hospital, needle in the leg and half a dozen tablets I'd say this would have too be one of the most painful weekends I've had in ages.

Worth the trip though.

im thinking it would have been slightly interesting being bitten by a centipede... then turning around seeing the bright light at the end of the tunnel (cave )... did your life flash before your eyes???
did you know centipedes have lots of legs???
this guy does not have lots of eyes... he has only one single eye. ( he could have lots of legs or just two but i cant see them to be absolutly sure. anyones guess really.  cyclops

I watered cacti in the morning.
Since Ariocarpus have started to push new flowering buds up, I removed flower remains in the afternoon. They should be removed earlier but I could not.
The photo is a degrafted A. kotschoubeyanus attached flower remains.

Wow that is a massive A. Kotsch Hanazono, what a beauty. Good to see you posting again old friend, when was it degrafted? and how long did roots take to forum for Kotsch ?

@Ricky I believe it would have been on Harrissia Jusbertii, correct me if I'm wrong Hanazono.

rickyscactus & Hellonasty

The A. kotschoubeyanus on the photo was grafted on a Hylocereus stock.
I degrafted it in 2008 with a short vascular bundle of the Hylocereus.
The plant relies on own roots currently.

My 1st attempt of the degrafting method was in 2005.
The scion was A. kotschoubeyanus f Rio Verde.
The photo is the current appearance.

Pereskiopsis is also non-permanent stock as same as Hylocereus.
I have been testing various scions with short stocks of Pereskiopsis.

Wow! Amazing plants Hanazono, thanks for the info. I prefer Hylocereus as a root stock for Ariocarpus and Astrophytum I find I get the most reliable results.

Did some serious seedling re-potting, I must have done a few hundred approx 2 year old Astrophytum Cultivars. I have been putting that off for ages, I'm glad its all done Smile

I consolidated my buckets and found that in all the rain I only got ~20 L water. And some snail-or-something keeps eating the new growth on my small trailing-type Selenicereus sp. Very annoying!

I watered asterias cultivars in the morning.
Although it is autumn, the forecast maximum temperature of today is 33 'C.
I could see some flowering buds.

Some VERY NICE Ariocarpus and Astrophytums there Hanzono!!!

A bit jealous here of what you have there, but slowly and steadily one day i hope to get a great collection like yours!!!

Keep up the great photos!!!

I have to ask, how precise are you with watering? or do your trays have holes to drain excess water? for your Astrophytums.

Why is it that every time one of my permanently-outside cacti gets damaged in some way it always rains that night???

Sure, it's usually a tough plant (in this case, Selenicereus megalanthus) but it is not nice!

rickyscactus

I water into the small space between plant and pot one by one.
It takes time but I have to do because I collect cactus as ornamental plants.
There are no holes on trays. Small amount excess water will remain on trays and dried up naturally.

All my asterias are propagated from seed by myself.
I just sowed seeds every year for last 10 years and built up numbers.
