The dangers of a nursery visit.

Just got home from Hamiltons here and I have to say a place like that is deadly dangerous for an impuse buyer like me. Just to darn big a variety to choose from!
Went with a $100 in my pocket and came home with just bit of change 12 new little spiky friends for me and one of those desert scenes for the wife.



Now comes the challenge of naming the few there that just has generic names or only a genus on the label.
My guesses are from left to right:
1: Trichocereus bridgesii Monstrose? (Nothing on label)
2: Trichocereus bridgesii? (Nothing on label)
3: Gymnocalycium marquezii? (only Gymnocalycium on label)
4: Notocactus leninghausii (according to label)
5: Notocactus magnificus (according to label)
6: Stenocactus rosasianus? (only Stenocactus on label)
7: Gymnocalycium denudatrum? (only Gymnocalycium on label, nice flowerbud coming)
8: Echinocereus ?
9: Opuntia microdasys? (only Opuntia on the label)
10: Thelocactus macdowelii (according to label)
11: ? (the ever loved "spike" according to the label..massive flower bud on it though)
12: Astrophytum capricorne x (according to the label)

#8 - my guess is some variety of Echinocereus pectinatus.

N. leninghausii and N. magnificus are good choices for outdoor garden beds in Sydney.

Could indeed be.
And I know I should be focusing on stuff that will survive the Sydney summer and winter but I just can't help myself

As for the "spike", here's some closer shots as it's opened up somewhat today..hope it will open fully tomorrow.

Echinocereus polyacanthus?

I believe echinocereus have spiky flowers, which that doesn't appear to have. Maybe its an echinopsis?

Hmmm... could be right there, never really looked for spines on the flower stems themselves.
Could it be Echinopsis hybrid cv. HOT LIPS

Did a second trip to Hamiltons last week, this time on a more limited budget but still came home with a nice "catch".


Front row left to right: Mammillaria bocasana, Echinopsis sp, Mammillaria carmenae, Mammillaria fuscohamata
Back row: Opuntia microdasys contorta, Oreocereus celcianus, Mammillaria rhodantha, Echinocactus grusonii albispinus
And behind them an Epiphyllum hybrid.
3 small ones at the front without labels in the pots are going to the oldest granddaughter as last time she was here she asked when she could get some cactuses of her own.

Wife liked that one too so it's what I came home with. lol Was aiming more towards getting more of a variety in smaller sizes but couldn't really walk past those 2 bigger ones.

Already got smaller variants of the E. grusonii (both regular and albispinus) and Oreocereus celcianus growing outdoors without any protection to find out how they will do in the Sydney climate before I committ the larger ones to an outdoors life. Plan on doing the same with the M. rhodantha.
