| I assume quite a few of the ppl here would have received the email below. Rather unfortunate since he is right in that we probably will never see some of the species on his list again. ----- Original Message ----- From: Vlado Viglasky

The business is as good as sold, the next owner is in USA and we just need to find out more details about their customs regulations. At the moment it looks like the handover will be around 10 - 15th of April. The agreed price is much less than I was hoping for, but it will be enough to start the massage school for the blind in Bali. He didn't pay anything yet, we didn't sign any contract and until he actually pays me some deposit, you have the last opportunity to buy some seeds that may never be offered for sale in Australia again. If there are any seeds that you would like to buy before they leave the country, please place your order as soon as possible. In gratitude for all the patronage over the last 20 years I am offering 33% discount on all orders that I will receive before the 10th of April. The old email address viglasky@optusnet.com.au will soon be cancelled, as well as a Paypal account associated with that email address. In future, please use vlado.viglasky@gmail.com email address to communicate with me and make all Paypal payments into vlado.viglasky@gmail.com paypal account. Cheers, Vlado PS, today I got summons to appear at the local magistrate's court on 15th of April, charged with 4 summary offences, all related to hoodia capsules. So it looks like that in a period of a few days the seeds business will be out of my hands, there will be some progress with the TGA raid back in Aug 2008 I hope that the case will be thrown out – the search warrant was invalid – there were 5 things wrong with it and each of them can make the warrant invalid.

| I tried to re-order a couple of the stap species that my son trashed in my germination disaster last month, but I don't think that Vlado got my emails. I re-sent the message last Friday but no word back: I hope that he's not having too many hassles getting things wrapped up.
It's a sad - indeed, a bitter - loss for Australians. I have recently had my interest in globulars (especially the astro types) piqued by some of the members here, and Vlado was offering a range across several genera that I would have loved to sample over the next few years. Given the quarantine hoops and costs to import the named varieties from overseas, it's just not worth the hassle to go out of Australia for such varieties.
What a shame that the gig went OS. Still, I wish Vlado well. He had a treasurehouse of seeds that endeared him to many cactophiles, but his enthusiasm for his work in Bali is even more amazing.
Bon voyage, Vlado. | |

| Well, it appears that Vlado is not quite done yet...Just received an email saying the sale fell through and he's going to continue to trade on a slightly smaller scale until October... You can read about it HERE | |

| Yeah, I received that email too.
If only I had the spare money I'd take it on, but I doubt that I'd see that sort of spare cash for years yet...
At least Vlado has the hoodia fiasco behind him, although I reckon that the nonsense with the capsules really was a bit beyond the pale. It's great that Australia has such stringent health oversight, but more and more the bureaucracy is picking nits rather than fair fights.
Anyway, at least there's a bit more time to snaffle those last few seeds before they likely go O/S.

| I think anybody who's ever bought seed off him got the email. I will have to see the minister for finance when she's in a good mood about some $ to expand the collection.
Yeah i considered taking it on as well, but being in the sunshine state i would have had to abandon a fifth of the collection or risk persecution for selling noxious weeds so that pretty quickly decided that.
And yes your right woody the bureaucracy do like to pick easy targets, gets their stats up for minimum risk & cost (man hours). All gov dept's live or die by their stats these days. You wont see the DPP reneging on any deals with wesfarmers any time soon, wesfarmers have deep pockets & much better lawyers so the risk of losing or chewing up all available DPP resources at the expence of criminal cases is quite high.
