No Cactus, strange.

I went to bunnings to get a few things and was hoping to acquire some practical grafting seeds/stock and perhaps even a more exotic varitey.

There was not one cactus or cactus seed packet.

Now i'm thinking why the hell would they not have cactus if they have flowers and other decorative plants? I am sure they use to have hundreds of cactai every christmas.

I now notice that there generally aren't many cactai in the houses around me... do cactai stand out in such an 'atmosphere'?

I don't believe I've ever seen Bunnings carrying cacti seeds, and usually their cacti selection seems very poor. I've tried sourcing grafting stocks from them, but they are usually lucky to have one sad-looking Myrtillocactus geometrizans. I think I've seen pachs/scops there once...

we are indeed fortuate with our Bunnings store. [plants , not seeds) always a nice lot to choose from. I have a few small plants of Myrtillocactus geometrizans and my parent plant has a couple of very nice fat growths that i was admiring today.

Specialist plants like cacti arent realy suited to bunnings. bunnings require moderate to high margin & high turnover and are aimed at the window sill market, not the collector. Plus most of the ones i used to see there were rotted from far too much water & or were unlabeled seedlings

bunnings source their plants from wholesale nurserys & as far as i am aware most cactus nursery's in Oz are semi comercial over grown hobby's like lester meyers or paul forster with a huge numbers of species but not large numbers of each.
Only 2 or 3 nurserys are able to supply the vast numbers of uniform plants that bunnings require thats why they tend to have only a hand full of species & as far as i know no one is packaging cactus seed "point of sale ready" style since yates was bought out by orica.

I've picked up an Echinocactus platyacanthus, 2 Astro myrio nudums, a crested gymno species ( sadly it didnt last long out in the sun).
Bunnings some times has a good choice, not often, but sometimes.
