| good idea! maybe your plant is a Peniocereus serpentinus: http://forum.auscactiforum.net/cactus-succulent-identification-f16/a-3-columnar-t394.htm i'm not particularly good with columnars though. | |

| Nice Trig. I dont believe it is P.serpentinus, it lacks the red spines. | |

| Thanks. Yeah I tend to agree with you MC on this one. Also the ribs undulate if you know what I mean? I will try and get a closer shot but I don't think I will be able to get in that close. I will try though. It's also VERY skinny. It has never flowered, so that makes it harder to ID. Comes form an abandoned and burnt out house. That's about all I know about it. I like though. It's kinda unique.

| Neither do I lewis. Well, I have a few ideas, but I like to see some flowers first before making the call.
Definitely not MC. It's max width is 20mm and has been growing in pretty full on sun in a large pot for around 4 years. It has never even shown signs of thickening up. It's an odd one indeed.
Thinking it's more along the lines of Loxanthocereus sp. which I think is now Cleistocactus, is that right lewis? I suck at nomenclature. I need it to flower I think, to really know. | |

| im thinking it could be a peniocereus, other than serpentinus. there are many more species.as you say a flower would be an excellent clue - trigonus wrote:

I suck at nomenclature. i suck at nomenclature too. i find taxonomic changes annoying. i just go by desert-tropicals if i want to find the current name of something... usually only to find i preferred the older synonym and will refer to the said plant by its older name as i always did. edit: BTW i think this topic is heading a bit OT from its original intention

| I love the photograph Trig and worth yof a frame , hanging on the wall, and if this pic were to be placed on the ID forum I'd just have to say I think I'd be looking at Cleistocactus villamontesii for an ID, (spines not long enough for baumannii I don't think).
