| The seed was obtained from a Czech cacti collector and I planted it last year. Out of the 20 seed only one germinated, I grafted this seedling to pereskiopsis in January 08. It produced a pup and that was grafted sucessfully to Hylo so now I've got two fo these. The seed was labeled Astrophytum Onzuka Hybrid ??? ???. The Czech guy said it was a rare plant anyway...... I'm wondering if anyone knows this CV ?? From what I can see it has obvious Onzuka markings + a Hakuun type pattern. What is really interesting is there are spines and possibly extra ribs beginning to grow between the larger ribs it is hard to explain so just take a look for yourself. | |

| That's one strange looking Astro! I like it. Looks like there is a bit of A. capricorne in there somewhere. Keep us updated on how it develops. | |

| Yeah I'm loving this one so far It could have capricorne or even oratum in it, the spines have come from somewhere. The longer more wavy spines on the ribs have been there since early on, but the other shorter ones just formed. I have been looking around various sites and can't see to find a simmilar plant. | |

| they could just be going to 8 ribs, as astros do. if memory serves myriostigma are a little easier to breed with A. ornatum....so perhaps its that. but those spines do look more capricorne eh? Either way, no way of knowing without the breeder telling you though | |

| The spines are what got me thinkin' capricorne Kada mate. All my ornatum seem to have more yellowish to tan spines. | |

| Hmm time will tell....... Only thing is, if your right Kada, it appears to be growing the spines in between each rib which would suggest it will have 10 ribs. I think it may be about to go into what the Japanese call their CV Fukuryu, type growth. I hope it does I think Fukuryu means extra ribs ??? I have a closer pic I forgot to post in the original. | |

| cool looking plant HN, I'm wondering if some of the weirdness comes from being grafted onto the pereskopsis stock I have found it does tend to change things a bit - and add some extra fruitiness. the following are Just A asterias. but are showing different wool patterns and pupping. | |

| Yeah I agree with WT. All the asterias I have grafted to Pere look very very similar to what he posted ! I think most of mine were asterias texas.
I will try and keep everyone updated with how this one develops. Like I said in the first post I have another one it will be interesting to se if it develops this type of growth. | |
