| I have 10 boxes of same size and 5 smaller ones. These boxes are full with cacti seedlings. I do not think they all survive but there are many seedlings. I normally sow cacti seeds in July and August but I sowed some seeds in February as a trial. This trial is for the climate change, warmer winter. Super kabuto sown seeds on 08/02/2016, trial ones Super kabuto sown seeds on 23/07/2015, normal ones It seems no issues when cacti seeds sowed in late summer/early autumn. I assume they will grow continuously in winter. | |

| How do you keep them warm through winter? | |

| Wet-boxes sit in the greenhouse. There are no heating facilities in the greenhouse. The temperature in the greenhouse reaches to 30 'C even if it was mid of winter.
When it passed the winter solstice, seedlings grow with a significant speed.

| It has been the season for sowing cactus seeds. I will sow just 10 species in this season. 2 species of seeds were sown in 3 pots each, 6 pots in total in this morning. (18) Ariocarpus retusus cv Shinkawa tama-zouge This cultivar has longer tubercles than that of standard one. Mother plant: (19) Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower This cultivar shows cauliflower like tubercles when the plant reached to a mature age. Mother plant: | |

| Your astrophytums are amazing! I love the shape of the miracle Kabuto. Were the mother plants sowed from seed? I've recently put down a heap of nice Astro seed, I'm really excited to see some beautiful plants in the coming years. | |

| All my A. asterias were propagated from seeds by myself. The miracle kabuto on the photo was sown seed on 21st March 2006. The current size is 14 cm in diameter. Miracle kabuto will grow larger, 20 cm in diameter.
The shape is called as "starfish" and it is hereditary. You have to select parents to get this shape.

| I tried searching, could you please explain your method of a wet-box? (sorry if this has been asked before). And do you use the small rocks/gravel as a top layer or it is your soil mix mostly gravel? | |

| Wet-box: A plastic box with a lid A capillary mat is laid on the bottom. It is possible to keep the moisture in the box as 100% because there is a lid. As shown on the photo, the box is not clear, white color. This can reduce sunlight strength over seedlings. Since you can not feed water over small seedlings, water on the capillary mat. Water is sucked up from the bottom of pots. The gravel is the top dressing, 2-4 mm zeolite. The top dressing can hold relatively large seeds such as Astrophytum and can minimize the formation of moss after the germination. The details of potting-mix are shown on this thread posted on 23rd June 2015. | |

| August is the early spring for my cactus calendar. The main job in spring is the repotting of cactus seedlings. 1st job will be Obregonia denegrii repotting. Seeds were sown in 2013 and 1st repotting was in 2014. They were kept in a wet-box since their germination. 25 seedlings are in 10 cm square pots, 125 in total. They will be out of the wet-box and move into 5 cm square tubes. | |

| I have 2 pots of seedlings, Discocactus heptacanths v griseus sown seeds on 9th August 2013. They have grown well and it is the time of repotting. I will select 35 of good ones and repot them. The photo is one of pots. | |

| I selected 42 seedlings of D. heptacanthus, 35 plus 7 extras. Seedlings are 1.5 to 2.0 cm in diameter. Roots are quite long, around 10 cm. I will adjust the length to 3 cm or so before the repotting. | |

| I repotted 5 seedlings of Turbinicarpus alonsoi into 5 cm square tubes. Seeds were sown in 2012 but they are still very small, 10 mm in diameter. | |

| Hanazono, When you make selection, what do you do with the seedlings you don't select? Do you sell them? | |
