Dragon Tree help

Hi, I am a new member and joined as I saw some discussion relating to the Dracaena Draco Dragon Trees. I am hoping one of you may be able to help me with a problem.
Recently I lost 2 heads and growing spikes through rot on one of double headed dragon trees. The tops of the trunks have blackened, and I want to know if there is any chance this 9 year old tree will survive.
Currently it has no living leaves, and this has only just occurred.
If you know anything please let me know, the information even on the Internet is very limited when it comes to troubleshooting these amazing plants.
I am unsure as to whether I leave it to see if new life will come back, saw it off below the rotted end, or remove the tree and plant anew.

Is it planted in a pot or in the ground?
Where are you based?
Have you changed anything recently?
What sort of soil is it in?

I have had one in the same pot for 10 years, I only water it every few months.

I'd be inclined to say it will come back, scratch the bark and see if there is green underneath?
You can always cut off the affected area and it should sprout new shoots, it will take a while though.
They are a very hardly plant but do not like being over watered.
