Crest care. Help?

So I have an E. Peruvianus crest that appears to be reverting back to normal growth. Normally one would cut the normal growth off so the plant puts its energy into the crest.

Unfortunately I received this plant after a large portion had already begun to revert. Which means if I cut off the normal growth a significant portion of the plant will be a big ugly scar.

I'm looking for ideas for what to do.

Do I leave it and hope that some of the new growths will begin cresting again? (one tip in the center of the plant appears to be doing that)

Do I cut the normal growth off and hope the crest will hide the scars?

Do I hot needle the tips?

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

well to me its a striking specimen but I agree in time I'd be worried about the reversion taking over. Maybe you could cut the reversion off the side but I can't see how it could be done nicely. Perhaps it would be better to take a smaller piece of the crest and start a new pot? I'd be interested to hear if any of the other members have better ideas as I've also got a similar though more easily managed reversion issues. I can just periodically cut them off at the base, kind of like suckers on a grafted tree.

Yes it is certainly a tricky one. I am a bit hesitant to make any decisions without checking every angle first. I have heard of another story where some one had a similar plant to this and the heads began cresting again. The issue is if I leave it go for a long time then I could end up with a huge pile of columns and a tiny little crested patch at the base.

I would leave it for a while and see what it does. The positive in having normal growth is you should get flowers once the plant is mature Plants tent not to flower from crested areas.
