| Hey Cactii people I brought this cactus yesterday from a nursery I used to work at, I thought it looked a bit like trichocereus (perhaps macrogenus?). Noone there could tell me the species and the cactus card only told me only that it is indeed a cactus. Be interested to know if you can ID this guy. Thanks | |

| Would have to agree with rickyscactus. I was looking at Browningia Hertlingiana the other day and this looks exactly the same. The spines look a little thinner than the ones I was looking but I was looking at more advanced plants so that may explain that. Great looking cactus! | |

| Good job on the ID Ricky !!
@ powerinformation, this plant is commonly confused with Trichocereus and some other Columnars for that matter. I'm pretty sure Ricky is spot on.
By the way, Browningia hertlingiana once mature are an amazing looking plant, they can grow very large and fat and keep that nice blue colour. Put it in the ground or a nice large pot once it matures and it will really take off.

| I have a book that says Browningia Hertlingiana,
But i also have an actual plant with the name tag Azureocereus Hertlingianus.
Slightly different names but i'm sure there the same.
The book is fairly old, but the pictures to name description i find great.

| Yeah thanks guys, it is a really nice healthy colour, I've stuck it next to my others for inspiration. I think I will repot it soon the pebbles are falling out and it would be nicer in a terracotta pot me thinks | |

| Yes Ricky both are correct the names are synonymous, however I believe Browningia Hertlingiana is the accepted species currently;
Here is a little bit on the evolution of the taxonomy if your are interested..

| Yep definitely browningia. I've had this one for almost three years now. Still only 8 inches tall. Very slow growing but this year it seemed to speed up a bit. If I remember correctly the Arizona Cactus Garden stocked seed for 2 different CV's of this plant. | |

Id put my money on Browningia Hertlingiana Agreed. They turn up every so often at Bunnings in those states which are supplied by Paradisia (Collectors Corner). Characterized by the blue color and nobbly appearance.
