Ordering seeds from OS

Good evening folks,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience ordering seeds from overseas?
I have found a seller on ebay from Germany who has great seed mixes at a fraction of domestic prices.
It's not a huge gamble if they don't make it through customs but I was just wondering what your experiences were?

The species I'm looking at are:
-astrophytum cultivars
-lithops (mixed)
-mammillaria (mixed)
-super mix (too many types to mention)

I have successfully ordered Aztekium seeds from the US on a few occasions. As long as it has nothing to do with lophophora you could probably slip a few packets through customs. Having said that I do not publicly support breaking the law and there is always a risk that your seeds could be confiscated. Also you could receive an official warning not to do it again.It's also important to point out that they can, at their own discretion, enforce some pretty hefty fines for flagrant breaches of the law.
I would strongly recommend a bit of research. I do vaguely, remember reading a thread on the forum about importing. If you can locate it in a search it may answer a lot of questions without the need to endure mind numbing government nonsense. If not try the AQIS or customs website. If you can stomach the endless pages of bureaucratic diarrhea you will probably find all the information you need to make a proper risk assessment.

I did try and do some research through aqis but 15 minutes later I wanted to throw my computer out the window *jokes*
I know the lophs are a no go and a few others. Not interested in any of those, just the regular cacti without the "title" attached.
There was a few people from Australia in his feedback who said they received their orders well. So perhaps I'll do a trial run with 1 packet and see how I go.
There has to be some level of leniency for 1 little packet of seeds, you'd think?
I will do a forum search before I order just to make sure I've got as much info as possible before I go ordering.

Yes you can do it and do it legally. There are links in the forum rules to AQIS check that out. Also there is an old thread on this topic with some good info, have a search and read but please don't post on it as we don't want old threads like that dug up

I ended up finding a few pages on DAFF that specifically mentioned the type of cactus seeds I'm wanting to import and there are absolutely no restrictions on them and no paperwork or any nonsense like that.
I've ordered a pack of Astro seeds and a pack of lithops seeds.
Couldn't believe how cheap the lithop seed was compared to aus. Free postage on both too!

Here's hoping I've read the government mumbo jumbo correctly, guess I will find out soon enough!
