Clay for mesembs in Sydney?

Hello everybody,

This is my first post in this forum. My name is Pedro and I have just moved to Sydney from Japan. I have been trying to find some place to buy clay in Sydney to grow some rare succulents (mostly mesembs), but I have been unable so far to find it at any nursery... Any idea where I could get some? Any help would be highly appreciated!

what mesembs? i would have thought clay would not be suitable for such plants

Muiria hortensea, some gibbaeum, diplosoma luckhoffi... There are quite a few that grow on silty clay and will not make it to their second year unless they have the proper conditions

mmm interesting looking plants. seem a bit like conophytum?

they're like the tricky cousins of conophytum and lithops, dactylopsis digitata is another one of the group which only thrives on clay

I mix clay base cat litter after removed all fine in my cactus potting-mix.
Japanese use Akatama-tuchi or Kamuma-do but they are not available in here.
Clay base cat litter is similar to Kanuma-do.
I am not sure the cat litter suits or not for your plants but it is in any supermarkets.

I also use crashed scoria, 2~4 mm as substitute for Akatama-tuchi but it may not available in Sydney.
