| Hello, i am just new to this forum and was wondering if somebody could help me identify my cactus, the man at the nursery wasnt to sure but said he would try to find out for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. | |

| Thanks heaps for the response, i was thinking that it might have been but wasn't sure. Hopefully one day ill get to enjoy its fruit that it produces. | |

| i would agree with that. if you are slightly unsure, wait for the flowers. they are very different from most of the columnar cacti. just little and usually creamy white, and they dont always occur on the apex of the plant. for me the spine configuration is a dead giveaway. great genus, the myrtillocacti, only has 4 (i think) species and great candalabra like shape of larger plants. | |

| For what its worth I reckon its a Myrtillocactus geometrizans (some cactus names are far too long) as well.
I've had them for years, but they have never flowered. They're supposed to produce edible fruit. Which might be why one of their common names is Blue Whortleberry. Which is all good except for the fact that I have no idea how to pronounce 'Whortleberry.' | |

| Agree on that aswell, had mine for a few years now and it's loving it's spot outdoors. Just got to make sure it's protected if you are in a frost prone area as they are not really cold tolerant. | |

| i have had flowers about 2-3cm long, but no fruit. must have a strange insect as polinator. i havent bothered hand polinating since cuttings are so easy to put up. | |

| Thanks heaps guys for your opinions, it had been at the nursery for two years so im kinda doing it a favour by giving it a good home haha
Was stoked when they told me the price also coz its about four and a half foot tall and only cost me $26.70!! | |
