| Hi All, Xerophilia No. 5 is scheduled to appear online in one month’s time (on the 30th of June 2013). The edition is closed now and we’re working on layout, final touches and proofing. It is possibly to have it ready before month end, if so there will be an announcement made. The feature article was written by Leccinum J. García Morales : The golden Mammillarias of Tamaulipas, Mexico. One of his habitat pictures is also on the front cover: We were also pleased by the success of the Romanian version of The Stone Eaters (our first special issue). An English version is due to appear in August. Cheers, Eduart | |

We will be able to get it out bu the end of July - Wednesday, the 31st of July is our deadline now. Final touches, proofreading, etc. we should be ready in few days. I'm not a Facebook aficionado, but you can find us on FB as well... there is a quite active group there and you can find few well-known members of the international C&S community who joined the group. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Xerophilia/120574961429921 - Quote :

| Thanks Eduart, This is an excellent issue, I was impressed by all the different stories involving conservation issues and also found the ethnobotanical information about the indigenous cultures using peyote and the management of the plants a s a resource for their religion very interesting. The story about the cover photo made me want to cry or smash something and the interview with Dr Laras was very inspiring. His comment about how growing Ariocarpus can be a method for slowing the passage of time made me think he is really aware of the effects the passion can have on a person. Having dedicated many years to cultivating Arios and other slow genera I was beginning to think the effects on the passage of time for the cultivator, that I have also noticed, were the first sign of madness setting in. That comment by Dr Laras helped reaffirm my sanity! He is a legend! Big thanks to all involved in this excellent and free(!!!!!!) publication. | |

| Thank you for your kind (and very inspiring) comment. I will forward it to Dr. Laras and I'm sure he will enjouy it! He is committed to sharing knowledge: "However, to address your question, what enthusiasts must do to inspire neophytes? The answer is simple: they must share; they must share their passion and enthusiasm, they must share plants and seeds, they must share their homes or greenhouses, but above all they must share their knowledge and experience. There is a vast amount of hard earned knowledge within each one of us and it is our responsibility to pass it on to others." This is our philosophy as well and we have established Xerophilia for this very precise reason.
Thanks again, Eduart | |

| That was the first copy of Xerophilia i have viewed and enjoyed it very much!! So thanks!! I will defiantly look more into the latest issue. I think i will be on a hunt for the goat and donkey that ate the Aztekium & Geohintonia, then i will EAT THEM!!!!! i guess with there last meal would be very tasty!!!! Its an absolute shame that such a great pair of plants, that have spent all there life growing in the toughest conditions, have had some rodents chew on them in a matter on seconds!!! | |

| Hi All,
Some of you may have received our two 2014 calendars per email. Although not an official Xerophilia product (and therefore not available on our website), the 2014 calendars can be downloaded from http://www.scribd.com/ (if you have an account search for Xerophilia). The calendars were not intended to be very functional – who needs classic calendars nowadays anyway? – but represent a big THANK YOU! to all who contributed with pictures, articles, support, ideas, and more to our effort of sharing free knowledge!
Happy New Year 2014!
Eduart
P.S. In mid to late January 2014 we will launch our third special issue: Epiphytic myrmecophytes of southern Asia and the southwest Pacific by Derrick J. Rowe. (English only). More details in the new year. | |
