| Hi Taygus, I grafted as I'm in Florida and I have lost several seedlings and one flowering plant to rot. I have tried leaving the pots dry but that has not helped either. Just one over watering at the wrong time or letting it dry too long and the tap root is done. Can't figure which it is yet. Grafting is hopefully a way I can keep a plant alive. I do have 5 grafted seedlings and they all have 2-3 small tubercles but the one seedling not grafted has just one. Don't know if it'll catch up or not, but for now, the grafts are ahead. And yes, as you pointed out, grafting is a great way of increasing plants. | |

| I find they grow significantly quicker when grafted especially to Hylocereus, which is the best stock for ACM in my opinion, at least 3 times as fast. _________________ My Cacti Blog, please come visit me.

| Thanks for the reply, I am glad to be able to talk to people that actually grow & graft them rather than reading it out of a book. Mine are still small the biggest is just starting to throw it's fifth arm, seeing as though you guys are so helpful maybe you could tell me at what age/size can I expect to see my first flowers, keeping in mind they are on there own roots? @Hellonasty, I would love to see photos but please don't go out of your way for me as I totally understand how busy life can be. Thanks again. Cheers Taygus

| I sowed ACM seeds on 28/08/2010 in 5 pots. I completed the repotting of seedlings in 2 pots yesterday. They are 3 years old. It seems I need some more years to see flowers. | |

| They look very healthy Hanazono, it is hard to believe they are cactus:D.
Can I ask about how you grow them over the last three years & are they in 63mm pots? I have grown mine under a 600watt mh light & they are putting on some nice growth, they have four arms & are only nine moths old. I would like to add so photos but seem to be having trouble uploading them. Anyway thanks for the information & showing me some photos. I am very happy to be a member here:D Cheers Taygus | |

Seedlings were in 90 mm square pots. They were kept in a wet-box for last 3 years. The wet-box is a plastic box laid a capillary mat on the bottom for keeping moisture. The wet-box is covered by 50% shade-cloth under natural light.
I normally do the 1st repotting of cactus seedlings when they are 1 year old but I found ACM seedlings were crabby. As the countermeasure, I kept seedlings for 3 years without any repottings.
37 seedlings went into 50 mm square tubes.

| G'day - long overdue update for my ACM grafts. The biggest ones are around 30cm across. Here's a photo of the double headed one. | |
