I found these to be quite fast on the graft. Like I said it started to rot so this time last year I grafted a bit about 4cmm wide by 2cm high on a fresh tricho cutting (following Kada's method, Thanks Kada!) I left the grafted cutting without roots on the window sill inside where it was warmer until mid spring before potting it up. Seemed to work fine as an emergency way of saving a plant that rots in winter. It grew out to what it is now in a single season from the older growth which you can see is a different colour.
It looks to me like your one is a different clone maybe. It seems taller and more upright. Would be very interesting to breed the two and see what the offspring were like.

Goodness me CC! All those spikes, yikes! Very Happy

Apart from the wavy lines, the different colours in the spines are great. I must get my act together and start planting cacti seeds to see how many I can exterminate! At least that would be more fun than cleaning and sterilising pots (which is what I've been doing for the last two hours!)

Seriuosly though, you must be very proud of your collection? I hope I can grow cacti to give me some variety as looking at little stones all the time gets my head spinning!
