The second one is around 50% variegated. Althugh the front of photo is yellow, back is green.
I crossed a variegated lloydii x cauliflower and got 5 variegated seedlings.
I grafted all of them. The top one was also variegated when it was seedling but returned to the normal green.

Although they have not been flowering size but I can introduce 3 more Ariocarpus hybrids.
They are all 1st filials.
All of them are grafted. I keep own root seedlings also but they grow very very slow.
I took photos this morning.

Awesome results Hanazono. I'm very jealous Very Happy I believe member Cryptocarpa has some plants from a similar cross and has had much the same result, variegated plants.

I am a hobby cactus collector and almost all members of this form are same, I think.
We, hobby cactus collectors can do anythings, not neccessary to think working cost or plant price etc becuse of just hobby.
Ariocarpus seedlings are expensive becuse they are growing very slowly.
I sow Ariocarpus seeds every year and do not think about grwoing speed. Seedlings are growing gradually anyway.

I have create 4 Ariocarpus hybrids, collected seeds from my own plants.
When you crossed differnt species of Ariocarpus, more than 50 % of seedlings are varigated, pale color.
Pale color ones are difficult to survive by own root and I graft some of them as samples.
I think there is no special value of these unusual colored Ariocarpus.

I recommend you to stat collecting Ariocarpus from seeds, less expensive, just need time.
Sowing seeds in spring and grafting young seedlings, it will be in flower in autumn same year or next year.
You can collect a lot of seeds from your plants within 2 years.

There are many ways of grafting.
It depends upon the size of scion.
I normally graft very young seedlings, 3 days ~30 days old after germination.
These seedlings are quite small and the shrinkage during grafting process is also small.
You do not need anythings, just put the scion on the stock and protect from drying.

If you graft larger seedlings or pups, you have to compensate the shrinkage by giving pressure.
