PostSubject: Echinopsis hybrid deformed/mutated flower.   Echinopsis hybrid deformed/mutated flower. EmptyMon Oct 26, 2015 9:03 am

Good day all,
Well, like any other Monday morning, I rise out of bed, make a coffee and head out side to view any new blooms or night time activities in the cacti patch. Many echinopsis hybrids have been throwing out multiple blooms so something new everyday. Many buds were emerging yesterday, so this mornings show held much anticipation. Generally with my echinopsis another shade of red/pink/purple. Low and behold an unusual looking flower. On closer inspection I realised the oddity. The flower was an intact, exact, complete half of a flower. Is this normal, will it happen again and did something bad cause this? Have taken photos, will post pics soon. Can't find any info on the net.
Cheers Xero

Hmm intriguing. Have a look in the flowering thread (Flower thread link. )bottom of page 7. Hanazono posted a pic of an Astrophytum flower that had crested. Flower mutations are uncommon but not unheard of.
