Confidor dosage rate? Empty
PostSubject: Confidor dosage rate?   Confidor dosage rate? EmptyMon Mar 09, 2015 6:55 pm

Hi guys,
I bought a bottle of confidor systemic insecticide today and am wondering if anyone can recommend the dosage rate?
The active ingredient is 15g/L imidaclorpid

The bottle recommends 10ml per 3 litres for most applications and bugs but there is also a 20ml per 3 litres rating which covers longtailed mealybug.

Was thinking of going right in the middle at 15ml per 3 litres but that is just a guess dosage rate.
My main concern is damaging or worse killing my cacti.
I have a very broad collection so unsure if the dosage would need adjustment for some species?

Confidor shouldn't effect your cacti in any significant way. I have treated my many times with quite high doses but if your worried you can always treat a few little ones and see what happens. I would go with the 20ml rate personally. Just to be sure everything is dead.

Confidor won't hurt our cacti, it is when you start using the botanical oils that things get a bit iffy.

Natrasoap, is a great organic way of keeping pests of cacti as well.

Thankyou for the advice.
Certainly put my mind at ease, just have to wait for some warm weather now before I water and apply the confidor.

I'd agree with the higher dosage as mealy bugs are a bugger to kill, I can also reccomend the yates rose gun or simular if you are unsure what the issue is as its got fungal as well as systemic chems. I had a few cases where the mealy bugs caused 2ndary fungal problems so the rose gun was good. Also be sure you check other plants in your backyard or surrounds as mealy bugs can colonise all sorts of things and spead back to the cacti. I found an infestation on a clump of agapanthas 50m away from my cacti and also another lot on a daphney 20m accross the yard.
